Meet Team Kadant – Chad Millington, Application & Engineering Specialist for Water Management
Department/Title: Application & Engineering Specialist for Water Management
Worked at Kadant Solutions Since: November 2006
Tell me about your career path and how you got to Kadant.
I graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology. The first company I worked for was Bartell, which manufactured equipment for the tire and wire industry. I worked on projects for the major tire manufactures like Michelin while in the engineering department. I also installed and reworked equipment in the United States, China, and Taiwan. I then moved back to Malta, New York and worked for a few different companies – Guyson Corporation (industrial parts cleaners) and Merus Machinery (custom factory automation). At Merus, I designed and manufactured equipment for the medical, industrial, and automotive industries. One of my favorite projects was working on a famous comedian’s Porsche garage in New York City. Then I landed at Kadant Solutions where I started in the engineering department and then transferred into the applications group. I still support engineering when needed.
What do you think is the most important quality for success?
Empowering people to be the best they can be. “Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.” —General George Smith Patton, Jr.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
That we are a team and if you need help or support there’s always someone that is willing to help. It takes more than one person to complete a project successfully.
How would you describe your approach to leadership?
Enthusiasm to support others to be able to get the job/task/project completed. Also, guide people to be the best they can be.
Tell me about your family.
I’ve been married to Carolyn for 13 years and we have a lovable eight-year-old black lab, named Molly. Carolyn is an Associate Financial Advisor with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. Molly spends her days guarding the house and sleeping. We enjoy working out and spending our summer time on the beach in Maine reading books.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
I’m a competitive, avid bicyclist that would ride year-round, but the snow gets in my way. I enjoy the soul searching solo rides and the comradery and competitiveness of group rides.
Do you have a bucket list? What would be the top item on your list?
I would like to design and build a modern steel-lugged bicycle frame from scratch.
