Vacuum Breaker Best Practice: Keeping Contamination Out

Vacuum breakers are frequently installed with the air inlet port facing up.  This orientation can lead to contaminants entering the steam system and potentially accumulating on the ball, seat, and cage area of the vacuum breaker. Leakage may result from the contamination and the flow capacity of the unit may be reduced. Using the threaded version of the vacuum breaker allows the installer the option to place a “U” shaped pipe assembly in the inlet port. Inserting a “U” shaped pipe helps prevent dust and other airborne debris from collecting on the ball.
